Składający się z dziesięciu części "Dekalog" trudno nazwać serialem. Nie ma tu ciągłości zdarzeń, akcji, różni są bohaterowie - jedynym człowiekiem pojawiającym się we wszystkich częściach jest tajemniczy nieznajomy grany przez Artura Barcisia. Wspólne jest za to miejsce akcji - ogromne, bezosobowe osiedle - sypialnia. Przytłaczające wielkością, niemal jednakowe bloki, ciasne mieszkania, w których rozgrywają się różne - mniejsze i większe dramaty ludzkie. Poszczególne historie opowiadane przez "Dekalog" odpowiadają swoją fabułą treściom niesionym przez kolejne przykazania. Trzeba jednak podkreślić, że Krzysztof Kieślowski i Krzysztof Piesiewicz nadali im formułę możliwą do przyjęcia przez każdego widza - niezależnie od światopoglądu i przekonań religijnych.
